Salat al-Taj (Arabic: صلاة التاج; the Prayer of the Crown), or Darood Taj as it’s commonly known in the Indian subcontinent, is a well-known prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ. It was originally composed by Shaykh Abu Bakr bin Salim, a scholar and gnostic born in the town of Tarim in the Hadhramaut Valley of South Yemen on 13 Jumada al-Thani in 919 AH (corresponding to Saturday August 16, 1513 CE). Among his titles was Fakhr al Wujud, meaning “the Pride of Existence”.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ سَيِّدِنَا وَمَوْلَانَا مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ صَاحِبِ التَّاجِ وَالْمِعْرَاجِ وَالْبُرَاقِ وَالْعَلَمِ ❁ دَافِعِ الْبَلآءِ وَالْوَبَآءِ وَالْقَحْطِ وَالْمَرَضِ وَالْأَلَمِ ❁ اِسْمُهُ مَكْتُوبٌ مَرْفُوعٌ مَشْفُوعٌ مَنْقُوشٌ فِي اللَّوْحِ وَالْقَلَمِ ❁ سَيِّدِ الْعَرَبِ وَالْعَجَمِ ❁ جِسْمُهُ مُقَدَّسٌ مُعَطَّرٌ مُطَهَّرٌ مُنَوَّرٌ فِي الْبَيْتِ وَالْحَرَمِ ❁ شَمْسِ الضُّحَى ❁ بَدْرِ الدُّجَى ❁ صَدْرِ الْعُلَى ❁ نُورِ الْهُدَى ❁ كَهْفِ الْوَرَى ❁ مِصْبَاحِ الظُّلَمِ ❁ جَمِيلِ الشِّيَمِ ❁ شَفِيعِ الْأُمَمِ ❁ صَاحِبِ الْجُودِ وَالْكَرَمِ ❁ وَاللهُ عَاصِمُهُ ❁ وَجِبْرِيلُ خَادِمُهُ ❁ وَالْبُرَاقُ مَرْكَبُهُ ❁ وَالْمِعْرَاجُ سَفَرُهُ ❁ وَسِدْرَتُ الْمُنْتَهَى مَقَامُهُ ❁ وَقَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ مَطْلُوبُهُ ❁ وَالْمَطْلُوبُ مَقْصُودُهُ ❁ وَالْمَقْصُودُ مَوْجُودُهُ ❁ سَيِّدِ الْمُرْسَلِينَ ❁ خَاتِمِ النَّبِيِّينَ ❁ شَفِيعِ الْمُذْنِبِينَ ❁ أَنِيسِ الْغَرِيبِينَ ❁ رَحْمَةٍ لِلْعَالَمِينَ ❁ رَاحَةِ الْعَاشِقِينَ ❁ مُرَادِ الْمُشْتَاقِينَ ❁ شَمْسِ الْعَارِفِينَ ❁ سِرَاجِ السَّالِكِينَ ❁ مِصْبَاحِ الْمُقَرَّبِينَ ❁ مُحِبِّ الْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْغُرَبَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ ❁ سَيِّدِ الثَّقَلَيْنِ ❁ نَبِيِّ الْحَرَمَيْنِ ❁ إِمَامِ الْقِبْلَتَيْنِ ❁ وَسِيلَتِنَا فِي الدَّارَيْنِ ❁ صَاحِبِ قَابَ قَوْسَيْنِ ❁ مَحْبُوبِ رَبِّ الْمَشْرِقَيْنِ وَالْمَغْرِبَيْنِ ❁ جَدِّ الْحَسَنِ وَالْحُسَيْنِ ❁ مَوْلَانَا وَمَوْلَى الثَّقَلَيْنِ ❁ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ❁ نُورٍ مِنْ نُورِ اللهِ ❁ يَا أَيُّهَا الْمُشْتَاقُونَ بِنُورِ جَمَالِهِ ❁ صَلّوُا عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ وَسَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيمًا
Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Sayyidinā wa Mawlānā Muḥammad(in), ṣāḥibi t-tāji wa-l-Miʿrāji wa-l-Burāqi wa-l-ʿalam(i), dāfiʿi l-balā’i wa-l-wabā’i wa-l-qaḥṭi wa-l-maraḍi wa-l-alam(i), ismuhu maktūbun marfūʿun mashfūʿun manqūshun fi-l-lawḥi wa-l-qalam(i), sayyidi l-ʿarabi wa-l-ʿajam(i), jismuhu muqaddasun muʿaṭṭarun muṭahharun munawwarun fi-l-bayti wa-l-ḥaram(i), shamsi ḍ-ḍuḥā badri d-dujā ṣadri l-ʿulā, nūri l-hudā, kahfi l-warā miṣbāḥi ẓ-ẓulam(i), jamīli sh-shiyam(i), shafīʿi l-umam(i), ṣāḥibi l-jūdi wa-l-karam(i), wa Llāhu ʿāṣimuhu, wa Jibrīlu khādimuhu, wa-l-Burāqu markabuhu, wa-l-Miʿrāju safaruhu, wa Sidratu l-Muntahā maqāmuhu, wa qāba qawsayni maṭlūbuhu, wa-l-maṭlūbu maqṣūduhu wa-l-maqṣūdu mawjūduh(u), sayyidi l-mursalīn(a), khātimi n-nabiyyīn(a), shafīʿi l-mudhnibīn(a), anīsi l-gharībīn(a), raḥmatin li-l-ʿālamīn(a), raḥati l-ʿāshiqīn(a), murādi l-mushtāqīn(a), shamsi l-ʿārifīn(a), sirāji s-sālikīn(a), miṣbāḥi l-muqarrabīn(a), muḥibbi l-fuqarā’i wa-l-ghurabā’i wa-l-masākīn(i), sayyidi th-thaqalayn(i), nabiyyi l-ḥaramayn(i), imāmi l-qiblatayn(i), wasīlatinā fi-d-dārayn(i), ṣāḥibi qāba qawsayn(i), maḥbūbi rabbi l-mashriqayni wa-l-maghribayn(i), jaddi l-Ḥasani wa-l-Ḥusayn, mawlānā wa mawlā th-thaqalayn(i), abi l-Qāsimi Muḥammadi bni ʿAbdi Llāh(i), nūrin min nūri Llāh(i), yā ayyuha l-mushtāqūna bi-nūri jamālihi, ṣallu ʿalayhi wa ālihi wa-aṣḥābihi wa sallimū taslīma.
O Allah, send prayers upon our master and patron Muhammad, the possessor of the crown, the Mi’raj, the Buraq and the flag, the repeller of hardships, epidemics, droughts, diseases and pain. His name is written, exalted, combined and engraved upon the tablet and pen. The master of both Arabs and non-Arabs, whose body is sanctified, fragrant, pure and illuminated in the House and the Sanctuary.
He is the bright sun, the full moon of the dark night, the foremost in loftiness, the light of guidance, the cave of refuge for mankind, the lantern in darkness. He is of beautiful character, the intercessor for nations, the possessor of graciousness and generosity.
Allah is his protector, Gabriel his servant, the Buraq his mount, the Mi’raj his voyage, the Lote Tree of the Uppermost Limit his station, two bows’ length or nearer the object of his quest; that which is sought is that which he desires and that which he desires is that which he finds.
He is the master of the Messengers, the Seal of the Prophets, the intercessor of sinners, the comforter of strangers, the mercy for the worlds, the delight of divine lovers, the object of yearning, the sun of the gnostics, the lamp for travellers upon the path to Allah, the lantern of those brought near, the lover of the poor, the strangers and the destitute.
The master of the two weighty things (humans and Jinn), the Prophet of the two sanctuaries, the Imam of the two Qiblas, our means of salvation in both abodes, the one at two bows length, the beloved of the Lord of the two Easts and the two Wests, the grandfather of Imam Hasan and Imam Husayn, our protector and the protector of the two worlds, the Father of Qasim, Muhammad, the son of Abdullah, a light from the light of Allah.
O you who yearns for the light of his beauty, invoke abundant blessings and peace upon him, his family and Companions.

O Allah, send prayers and peace, and blessings and honour, by the greatness of your Highest Essence, in every moment and every instant, forever, as much as Your knowledge, as much as the weight of Your knowledge, as much as the depths of Your knowledge, upon our master and patron Muhammad and the Family of our master and patron Muhammad, the possessor of the crown, the Mi’raj, the Buraq and the flag. And the repeller of hardships, epidemics, diseases and pain. His body is pure, fragrant and illuminated, whose name is written, exalted, and placed upon the tablet and pen. He is the bright sun, the full moon of the dark night, the light of guidance, the lantern in darkness. The Father of Qasim, the master of the two worlds and the intercessor of the two weighty things (humans and Jinn). Darood Taj Benefits
Since its composition, Darood Taj has found universal fame and many of the righteous (saliheen), gnostics (ʿarifeen) and seekers (murideen) have adopted it as part of their daily readings and recite it in abundance. A regular recitation of this prayer is known to:
- Purify the heart
- Increase provision (rizq)
- Provide protection from the effects of magic (sihr), envy (hasad) and jinn
- Help overcome grief and sadness
- Avert calamities
- Provide a vision of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Specific goals can be attained by reciting Darood Taj a specific number of times and / or at specific times of the day:
- For purification of the heart – 7 times after Fajr, 3 times after Asr and 3 times after Isha daily
- For increased provision – 7 times between Tahajjud and Fajr or 7 times after Fajr daily
- For protection from magic and jinn and to overcome disease, or other calamities – 11 times daily
- For protection from enemies, oppression and envy or to overcome poverty, sadness and grief – 41 times after Isha for 40 consecutive days or once daily
- To fulfil a specific purpose or need – 40 times between Isha and Fajr
- To receive divine inspiration – 100 times daily for 3 whole years
- To receive a vision of the Prophet Muhammad – 170 times every Thursday night for 40 consecutive Thursday nights
- To recover from an illness – 11 times, blow upon water and drink the water
- To attract love of a creation – 111 times for 40 consecutive nights in seclusion
